Nelle vostre tiepide case,
Voi che trovate tornando a sera
Il cibo caldo e visi amici:
Considerate se questo è un uomo
Che lavora nel fango

Che lotta per un pezzo di pane

In the Jewish Museum in Berlin, is it not? A very thoughtful place, and this work of art is particularly poignant. Visitors tread on the faces carefully at first, trying not to create noise. But as they make their way to the opposite end of the room, they cannot help but treat their steps in a more cavalier fashion, and the clang, clang clang of a face being trod upon becomes commonplace to them. A telling metaphor for the Holocaust.
Yes, that’s the place.

Reflect on the fact that this has happened:
Quel libro dovrebbe essere libro di testo in ogni scuola, e posti come il museo ebreo a Berlino o i campi di Auschwitz – Birkenau dovrebbero essere luoghi di visita obblgatoria per gli studenti. Non e’ un luogo comune che chi non conosce la storia sia condannato a ripeterne gli errori.
